Beginning....

So this is my first blog posting. No pressure. But it is pressure! There are so many people saying so many things out on the web…who am I to think I might have something to add?
I’ve worked on the actual design to make it look OK, yet I can see that there will need to be a lot more work so that the blog doesn’t look the same as everyone else’s. However, it can be the loveliest site in the world and no one will visit if I have nothing to offer.
So, a little about me: I’m entering my half-century year. I don’t like it. Actually hitting 50 will be another thing but luckily that doesn’t happen until the end of 2008. This fact doesn’t change the reality that I have hit a turning point in my life. How does one know they have hit a turning point? Well, when you quit a fairly new job because it is an awful fit and an awful boss and you have no immediate prospects I suppose “turning point” could be a little euphemistic, but that is what I am calling it. This was my dream job and it crashed and burned. Mostly due to having absolutely no training, high expectations, a young manager and co-workers who were both in the midst of having babies and never being in the office.
I’ve always talked about writing a book. Doesn’t everyone? Again, how do you know you will be any good? All I could think to do was to try my hand at writing everyday to get better at the craft. I imagine I will look back at this drivel and not believe I actually posted some of these beginning entries. You do have to start somewhere….a journey of many miles begins with one step?

  1. Turning at the turning point when you're a little off-kilter must be exciting, a little like when you first rode your bike without training wheels. Isn't it funny how that innocent image keeps repeating itself in the lives of people who are not afraid of new adventures?

  3. Good start, Les. Somehow I don't see writing per se as the destination of this turning point. You are too much of a physical do-er. But putting pen to paper (...or finger to keytab?)is a good start. I share the goofy gene with you and riding on that digression I ask you... have you thought of running a coffee shop where you could shoot the breeze with the common folk?

  4. Leslie,
Brava!!! Sorry about the job. I like the coffee shop idea. You are a talented people person and lots of fun.
Transitions are tough. I've been experiencing all of that. That old one foot in front of the other approach works. Good luck!

  5. Hi! Wow, you are an inspiration to me and to all the let's say soon to be middle aged women who are currently in jobs that aren't the right fit. I will watch and learn. Best of luck!

  6. Life is too short for you to have to "bow down and worship" the god of mercenary employment. You like people; working with them will keep you happy and healthy.
